World Column in the Rauhalahti day-care centre is a fixed part of the building. It is a steel pillar filled with concrete supporting the roof structure. The outside surface has been gilded using old gold plating and metal leaf gilding techniques. World Column is situated in the central part of the building, in the assembly hall, mythically holding up the sky-blue roof. World Column is a part of the City of Kuopio's art collection.
World Column, 2001, height 7 m, circumference 1 m.
"The roof of the world village is supported by artist Jaana Partanen's gold-shining column. You can marvel the piece from many different heights - from the floor or the loft. You would like to move to this village. The houses and its cottages are for living and enjoying."
