Location: Asunto Oy Kuopion Minnankantti (lobby), Minna Canthin katu 29, Kuopio, Finland
Commissioned by: Asunto Oy Kuopion Minnankantti
Artists: Jaana Partanen ja Heikki Lamusuo
The wall of the lobby of housing block Minnankantti (Minna's Corner) on Minna Canthin katu (Minna Canth Street) in Kuopio is adorned by a fixed piece designed for the premises that seamlessly supports the architecture of the building. It was made using the concrete of the wall along with gold and silver. Just as the author did with words, so too have the sculptors found immortal forms, abstract patterns and thoughts. Based on the idea of Minna Canth's texts, the white paper with its multifarious sentences draws a parallel with the artists' smooth white wall surface and the radiating silver and gold abstract forms of "Minna's Coin".
Minna's Coin, 2005, reinforced concrete, silver coating and 24 carat gold, size 1,5 m.
Minna’s Coin musical document
Minna's Coin (Minnanlantti) documents the creation of a public work of art in a music video. The document brings forth how a work of art is implemented as a part of architecture and how it makes the building individualistic, distinguishable and a welcoming part of the environment.
