Percentage culture award results
The National Percent Culture Award was presented on Wednesday, December 8th to media artist Charles Sandison. The award, given by the City of Jyväskylä, aims to raise awareness of the co-operation between art, events and construction, and to emphasize the importance of art and culture in everyday living and in the design of the built environment.
The jury was very pleased with the high-level nominees. In addition to Sandison, landscape architect and environmental artist Kaisa Berry and Partanen & Lamusuo competed for the award this year. All candidates are top names in promoting the percentage principle.
The percentage principle means that part of the cost of a construction project is spent on art. In order to implement the principle, there are several funding models, of which the concept of percentage culture used in Jyväskylän Kangas includes not only art acquisitions but also events. The award has previously been awarded to Frei Zimmer Oy (2017) and artist Kaarina Kaikkonen (2019).
Congratulations to the winner Charles Sandison! Thank you to the city of Jyväskylä and the prize jury for the nomination in the final trio!
