The Evolution artwork that functions as a sun visor has been installed on the facade of the Kuopio University Hospital, Kaari Hospital in 2015. The surface area is circa 1,500 m² (glass elements in total 476 pcs) which spans over the whole facade. Therefore in every window there is a unique view and artwork to look at. The rasterized image is printed onto the glass surface which filters the amount of sunlight according to the time of the day or the year. Some parts of the image is more opaque and other parts more translucent
In the work is utilised new imaging possibilities familiar from medical science by the researchers of the University of Eastern Finland and doctors of the KUH: such confocal microscope images of cells, magnetic images of the human brain and tissue structures made visible by a light microscope.
